Oberlin College’s graduating Class of 2013 numbers about 750 students. These graduates will in the same day join the ranks of some 40,000 alumni during this year’s Commencement/Reunion Weekend.
Reunion weekend is full of traditional class and affinity group gatherings and symposiums led by returning alumni experts, plus such unconventional activities as the grand piano extravaganza and co-op lunches. And everyone enjoys performances by OSteel, the Obertones, and OCircus! When Commencement unfolds on Monday, graduating seniors don message-laced mortarboards or funky hats and wear black robes (or not). This joint affair is perhaps the largest campus event open to all members of the Oberlin community.

I asked several of my friends why they took a gap year, what they did during their gap year, and what personal value it has had to them. Here is what they had to say.
Wilder Bowl is the heart of campus, a large, open grassy area surrounded by trees and dotted by benches. Almost every student passes through it daily to get to a class. Many use the space to toss a Frisbee, catch a snooze, read, and connect with friends.
