are not permitted.

Gifts of Art and Donations:

The Allen Memorial Art Museum (AMAM) is fortunate to benefit from the support of many generous individuals, through both gifts of art and monetary donations. Donors help the museum to achieve its mission to foster the study and appreciation of works of art of the highest quality, in a setting that has been free of charge to all since the museum’s founding in 1917.

To ensure that every acquisition meets the museum’s standard of quality and available resources, proposed gifts of art cannot always be accepted. Any work of art considered for the AMAM’s collection must undergo a formal review process. To initiate that process, please submit a high-quality photograph (digital or hard copy) for the curator’s review, along with information about the work’s artist, date, medium, and dimensions. We also ask that you supply information about the work’s provenance (history of ownership), including how you acquired the work; if you are able to supply invoices or receipts, copies of those would be appreciated, along with any additional documentation you may have (such as whether the work has ever been exhibited or published). This material can be sent by email ( or through the mail to the Allen Memorial Art Museum, Oberlin College, 87 North Main Street, Oberlin, OH  44074. Materials sent through the mail will not be returned unless a self-addressed, stamped envelope is included. Under no circumstances may artworks be brought into the museum.

As a non-profit institution, the AMAM is prohibited from providing appraisals. If you are looking for a monetary evaluation of an object, contact a professional appraiser in your area. Many auction houses and independent antique dealers offer appraisal services. Member associations such as those listed below can also refer you to specialists by region:
