London-born short story writer and novelist Zadie Smith’s first novel, White Teeth (2000), was published to acclaim when she was just 22. White Teeth is a vibrant portrait of contemporary multicultural London told through the story of three ethnically diverse families. It earned numerous awards including the Whitbread First Novel Award, The Guardian First Book Award, and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for Fiction, and set the stage for additional recognition for her later works. Smith is a professor in the Creative Writing Program at New York University.
