Oberlin Dance Company 2017 is the final concert of Nusha Martynuk and Carter McAdams, celebrating three decades of teaching at Oberlin. The concert showcases our student performers in both choreographed and improvised works. Nusha Martynuk revises Who Choose to Carry with an original score by Tom Lopez (2011) for a pared-down cast of highly technical dancers; the revised dance includes a duet with alumna Madeleine Klein and original score by Hunter Brown ’17. Carter McAdams reconstructs Night Clumsy, a wildly unrestrained dance inspired by John Gardner’s novel Grendel, originally created for the professional dance company Repertory Project in Cleveland. Students in Martynuk’s Improvisational Performance course will work all semester in collaboration with a musical improvisation ensemble from the conservatory, culminating in performances on the ODC concert. The concert will feature a duet created and performed by Martynuk and McAdams, with an original score by André Gribou. Produced with support from the Oberlin College Professor Research Fund. Directed by Nusha Martynuk, professor of dance.
