All OCApps Are Now On! [06Apr09]

We have now turned on all the applications within OCApps - which are applications for Oberlin College powered by Google. We have been using OCMail as our e-mail system since mid-October 2008. Now we have turned on the additional online productivity and collaboration tools:

OCCal calendars that can be viewed and/or shared with others
OCTalk online instant messaging system, accessible from within OCMail
OCSites a website and Wiki builder
OCDocs online storage and collaboration for documents (Word, OpenOffice, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF documents)); can share those documents with colleagues, create new documents, and edit documents that you've already uploaded, all from the web

OCApps provides many useful capabilities. Complete details can be found on the CIT Wiki. Since these tools are accessible, viewable, and/or and sharable via the web, it is very important, prior to using any of these tools, that you review the guidance and policies for the use of OCApps! These can be found online under Policies, Terms of Use, Guidelines, and Disclaimers. All documents created and shared within OCApps should be considered a "postcard" vs. "information in a sealed envelope". Note, also, that Google does not retain backups for your data from which any information may be recovered. Therefore, it is crucial that you retain important documents in an alternative location (stored on your hard drive, in LOCKER space, on some eternal medium (CD, DVD, flash drive, hard drive, etc.).

Meeting Maker users should be aware that Meeting Maker will cease to function at the end of June 2009, when the current license expires. Moving to OCCal, which is provided at no charge as part of OCApps, will result in a cost savings for the COllege. It is imperative that all Meeting Maker users become familiar with the calendar functionality of OCCal as soon as possible, and make the move to OCCal. Complete details on moving from Meeting Makerto OCCAl are available on the CIT Wiki. Training sessions are being offered for OCApps, with an emphasis on OCCal.

Tuesdays 1-2p
Wednesdays 2-3p
Thursdays 10-11a

All in the Academic Commons e-classroom, click here to RSVP

Please take advantage of attending one of these training sessions, especially if you are a Meeting Maker user. If you are unable to do so, or need additional assistance, please contact the CIT Help Desk at cit@oberlin.edu or at x58197.

Oberlin College CIT Does Not Phish! [30July08]

Oberlin College CIT will never, ever, ask you for your password or e-mail credentials in an email. If you think messages that do are "phishy", you are right to be suspicious, and we thank you for not replying to the message. Unfortunately, there is little we can do in advance to block attempts like this, so please, remain vigilant! When in doubt, call the CIT Help Desk (ext 58197) or e-mail us. Please read from the following links for more information:
