Oberlin Weekly News, Nov. 29, 1888

Copeland- At Oberlin, Ohio, of paralysis, November 21st, 1888, Delilah E. Copeland, wife of John C. Copeland, aged 79 years, 3 months, and 29 days.

The deceased was one of our early settlers, was a resident of Oberlin for 45 years. She was loved and respected by all who knew her. Although a great sufferer, she never murmured during her sickness, but bore her affliction with Christian fortitude and was resigned to the will of God. The bereaved husband and children have the deepest sympathy of the community in their sad bereavement.

Mrs. Copeland was a native of North Carolina, and came to Oberlin with her husband in 1813. Mr. Copeland, now 80 years of age, and entirely blind, and four of their eight children survive her. One son, John A. Copeland, was executed at Harper's Ferry for participating in the famous raid with John Brown.
