We have three additional 1870s buildings on South Main.

First is what we today as Campus Cleaners. The first building on the site was a furniture store destroyed by fire in 1871. Mr. Westervelt then built this two-story structure. The notable feature here is that the back room is much larger than the front room, it extends behind the building on the south. In1877 Crane’s cabinet shop opened in the back room, we do not know how long that business was there. The front room has been a grocery, bakery and lunch restaurant over the years until 1941 when the Oberlin Consumer Cooperative moved in and stayed until the 1950s. If you look carefully at this building from the street you can see windows beneath the 1950s aluminum façade.
