In 1939 George Bailey purchased two small buildings on this site, demolished them, and built this new structure. With its colored slate tile roof and central dormer, the building is distinctive in downtown Oberlin. Mr. Bailey’s daughter, the current owner, Patricia Stetson, told me that when he built the building her father put it in her and her mother’s names. She remembers as an 12-year old girl going to Cleveland in 1940 to sign the lease with Standard Drug, to whose exact specification the interior was designed.
