A. N. Beecher


Asahel Norton Beecher was born in New York in 1818, but soon moved with his family to Ohio. After marrying Elizabeth Tucker in 1840, Beecher moved to Oberlin in 1844. Beecher was quite involved in abolitionist cuases, and servd as mayor in the years just before the outbreak of the Civil War. Beecher was noted as a participant in conducting the Underground Railroad within Oberlin. He also served for a number of the years as Justice of the Peace. In 1880, Beecher moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado. He died in Oregon, having lived there for twelve years, on June 20, 1907.
