A Guide to the Ethnomusicology LP Collection
in the Oberlin College Conservatory Library

Compiled by Prof. Roderic Knight
with the assistance of McGregor-Oresmon scholars
Liza Sapir and Stephen Clink, 1999-2000
and numerous other students

The collection of ethnomusicological recordings on LP disc in the Conservatory Library contains some 2,000 items, acquired primarily between 1960 and 1990. They are shelved in geographical sequence according to the Dewey Decimal System. The purpose of this guide is to provide an overview of the collection by region, with country and regional maps.

The guide includes (1) the call number, (2) the title (sometimes annotated), and (3) the company number for each recording. To search for an item in a given list, use the "Find" command on the Edit menu. Many of the LPs were only minimally catalogued when acquired. Others have been fully catalogued, and this information is available on OBIS, the library online catalog.

The maps are drawn from three sources, whose permission is hereby gratefully acknowledged: the Perry-Castaneda Library Map Collection at the University of Texas at Austin, Lonely Planet Publications, and, for the American Indian Tribes map, Dontom Inc., PO Box 272, Manitou Springs, CO 80829, ph. 719-685-5150.
