Apollo Theater Reopens on October 3 After $1.2 Million in Renovations

Oberlin College and community will celebrate the rebirth of the historic Apollo Theater when it reopens next month after $1.2 million in renovations. To celebrate the Apollo’s revival, moviegoers will be offered free tickets to the first show slated for 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 3. Paying it Forward — One Obie at a Time
Oberlin – 1953. John Picken and Mary Sawyer Picken, both ’56 graduates meet in the kitchen of Martin’s Restaurant and Hotel. First-generation college students who have come to Oberlin on a Ford Foundation Scholarship, they are working at the hotel to pay their room and board fees.

Matt Kaplan goes to Washington and takes on Capitol Hill
In the two short years since he graduated from Oberlin College, Matthew A. Kaplan ’07 has wasted no time in making himself at home in the nation’s capital. The former junior and senior class president – and OC men’s basketball starter – is now a legislative assistant for U.S. Congressman Harry Mitchell (D-Arizona), serving as a policy adviser in the areas of tax, finance, banking, economic policy, foreign affairs, defense, and veteran’s issues. » More
