Since the 1840’s, when the first endowed scholarships at Oberlin were
created, the College has been able to offer financial assistance to
students on both a need and merit basis. Today, approximately three-fourths of Oberlin
students receive some form of grant or scholarship from the College.
Oberlin takes great pride in our ability to meet 100 percent of
demonstrated financial need for all eligible students. The College
commits a significant portion of our operating budget to this purpose
annually, with approximately $49 million designated to student aid in
recent years and an average need-based Oberlin grant of $19,000 per year
for qualifying students.
Despite these efforts, the aid packages of many students remain
dependent upon additional self-financing. It is not uncommon for a
graduating senior to have accumulated $17,000 or more in student loans
during his or her four years at Oberlin.
Your scholarship gift makes an Oberlin education a reality for our
students. Whether you give directly to current students through The
Oberlin Alumni Fund or work with our Leadership Giving Office to establish
an endowed fund in perpetuity, you join a long tradition of student support.
