Gifts in Action :: Why I Give
Tiffanie Luckett '99
Director of Development, American Society of Hematology
“I enjoy working as a reunion gift committee member because it gives me a chance to give back. I went to Oberlin on financial aid, and giving to/recruiting financial support for Oberlin seems like a natural way to offer a small ‘thank-you.’ Since I also volunteer for admissions, I know that there are some people (parents, alumni, potential donors, foundations, et cetera) that look at our national ranking as a measure of our clout as a school. I want others to think of Oberlin as highly as I do, and having a hearty donor roster makes Oberlin more attractive to donors, foundations and the folks who rank the schools. The higher the number of alumni who give to the school, the higher it is ranked. As a fundraiser by profession, I know that if I can help Oberlin push that number up by calling a few classmates, I am helping Oberlin in several ways, and I'm happy to do it.”
