Chemical Bonds

Three Oberlin chemists, Yihui Chen ’13, Emeritus Professor of Chemistry Norman C. Craig, and David Evans ’63, gathered in the Science Center near the life-sized bust of Charles Martin Hall, one of the college’s earliest chemists. Their union represents four generations of chemists and is a reminder of the steady strength of the sciences here.

During his tenure at Oberlin, Professor Craig taught Evans and was the research advisor for Chen. Evans, an organic chemist who retired from the Harvard faculty, received an Honorary Doctor of Science from Oberlin. Chen this year received the highly competitive Earnest B. Yeager Award for Research in Spectroscopy.
