Students of Assistant Professor of Biology Angela Roles search for crayfish in nearby Chance Creek. The quality of this natural habitat makes the creek a prime area for ecological research and field trips throughout the academic year.

Biology students use specialized equipment in the classroom such as a scanning electron microscope, a confocal microscope, an epifluorescent-equipped microscope, PCR and real-time PCR to aid them in their studies. Many students who major in biology have ventured into applied fields of medicine as well as conservation, environmental science, and agriculture.
