An incoming student carries her belongings into Dascomb during Orientation week. Dascomb is one of three residence halls at Oberlin, along with Barrows and Robert Lewis Kahn halls, reserved for first-year students as part of the First Year Residential Experience (FYRE).

FYRE programming includes a range of academic, social, and personal development activities to help new and transfer students transition to college life and build community. Students might engage in birthday celebrations, or attend a First Lecture, in which a faculty member recounts lessons from his or her first year of college.
