Conservatory Takes Manhattan 25 March 2013

The Oberlin Orchestra, led by conductor Raphael Jiménez, performed in Carnegie Hall as part of a 6-concert New York City tour. The performance featured pianist Jeremy Denk ‘90 as a soloist. Selections included works by Mozart, Ravel, Stravinsky and the New York premier of Christopher Rouse’s ‘71 Iscariot. The New York Times described Denk’s rendition of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21 in C as “… joyous and beautifully colored” which “resulted in an interpretation notable for its warmth, passion, and fleet-fingered passagework.”

Joining the orchestra on the tour were the Conservatory’s Faculty Jazz Ensemble, Contemporary Music Ensemble, Choir, and Baroque Ensemble that played some of the city’s famed venues: Jazz at Lincoln Center/Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, DiMenna Center for Classical Music, and the Brick Church.
