Welcome to a site to view specific string playing techniques!

We hope this will be helpful to you in your playing or teaching of the violin, viola, cello or bass.

Each video clip is a minute or less and demonstrates a specific technique performed with a violinist, violist, cellist and bassist together. These performers are students at the Oberlin Conservatory.

The musical examples were taken from the New Directions for Strings method book and A Scale in Time each written by Joanne Erwin, Kathleen Horvath, Robert McCashin and Brenda Mitchell and published in 2006 and 2012 respectively by the FJH Music Co.
