Ron Garcia, Abel Beltran-del-Rio, Carmen Mitchell, Olivia Sci, Sonya Byars, Rochelle Tortorete, and Aziza Jimerson--pictured above--are among the graduating seniors who have participated in fellowship and scholarship programs for minority students. Student life and services honored them at a dinner 4 May in South Hall, along with several others not pictured here: Tariq al-Jamil, Abena Bailey, Lorenzo Candelaria, Rose Chan, Paul Cunningham, Jennifer Dikes, Justin Emeka, Thad Gittens, Jeanette Hanna-Ruiz, Tasha Jackson, Eileen Mimi Kim, Kathy Konstantatos, Diana Olivares, and Oscar Reyes.

Underclass students who hold one of these fellowships also attended the dinner, which was organized by coordinator of special programs Deidre Hill. Presenting the awards were Daryl Freeman, director of the BP America fellowships in the sciences program; associate professor of sociology Clovis White, who presented awards to Ford-Mellon research scholars and Mellon minority undergraduate fellows; assistant professor of neuroscience David Holtzman, who presented a Rockefeller brothers fund fellowship award; and associate dean for student academic services Gloria White, who presented awards to president's science scholars. The guest speaker was Minnie Bowers, staff psychiatrist at the W.G. Nord Center. Remarks by dean of student life and services Patrick Penn closed the evening's program.
