OBERLIN, OHIO--The Evolution of a Book from A to Z: How to Get Published and What to do When is the title of a talk to be given by author Mickey Pearlman at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 16 at the Oberlin Public Library. Pearlman, who will be teaching "A Week of Writing Memoir" next month at Oberlin College, will share the ups and downs of a writers life during the talk, which is free and open to the public. Copies of Pearlmans books will be available for purchase and signing after the presentation. Pearlman is the author of Listen to their Voices and the co-author of A Voice of Ones Own, a collection of interviews with writing women that Publishers Weekly called a "treasure trove for readers of todays fiction." She also is the editor of three collections of memoirs: A Few Thousand Words about Love, A Place Called Home and Between Friend. A member of the national Book Critics Circle, she is listed as one of Mirabella Magazines "1000 Women for the 1990s." Her book, What to Read: The Essential Guide for Reading Group Members and Other Book Lovers, is listed as a resource on Oprah Winfreys website under "Running Your Own Book Club Meeting. Pearlman is the organizer of "A Celebration of Readers and Their Favorite Books" held annually at Mohonk Mountain House in upstate New York. She has taught workshops on "The Art and Craft of the Interview" and "Writing and Marketing the Non-Fiction Book" and has been a writer in residence at several schools, including Vanderbilt University and Carlton College. Pearlman earned a B.A. and an M.A. degree in English from the City College of New York, and a Masters degree in philosophy and a Ph.D. in English and American Literature from the City University of New York. |
