OBERLIN, OHIO--The Evolution of a Book from A to Z: How to Get Published and What to do When is the title of a talk to be given by author Mickey Pearlman at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 16 at the Oberlin Public Library.

Pearlman, who will be teaching "A Week of Writing Memoir" next month at Oberlin College, will share the ups and downs of a writer’s life during the talk, which is free and open to the public. Copies of Pearlman’s books will be available for purchase and signing after the presentation.

Pearlman is the author of Listen to their Voices and the co-author of A Voice of One’s Own, a collection of interviews with writing women that Publisher’s Weekly called a "treasure trove for readers of today’s fiction." She also is the editor of three collections of memoirs: A Few Thousand Words about Love, A Place Called Home and Between Friend.

A member of the national Book Critic’s Circle, she is listed as one of Mirabella Magazine’s "1000 Women for the 1990’s." Her book, What to Read: The Essential Guide for Reading Group Members and Other Book Lovers, is listed as a resource on Oprah Winfrey’s website under "Running Your Own Book Club Meeting.

Pearlman is the organizer of "A Celebration of Readers and Their Favorite Books" held annually at Mohonk Mountain House in upstate New York. She has taught workshops on "The Art and Craft of the Interview" and "Writing and Marketing the Non-Fiction Book" and has been a writer in residence at several schools, including Vanderbilt University and Carlton College.

Pearlman earned a B.A. and an M.A. degree in English from the City College of New York, and a Master’s degree in philosophy and a Ph.D. in English and American Literature from the City University of New York.

Oberlin College is an independent undergraduate liberal arts college. Its 2600 students are enrolled in two divisions, the College of Arts and Sciences and the Conservatory of Music. More Oberlin graduates earn Ph.D's than do graduates of any other predominantly undergraduate institution. Oberlin's Allen Art Museum is ranked first among college art museums, and its library is unequaled among college libraries for its depth and range of resources. Located 35 miles southwest of Cleveland, Ohio, Oberlin College admitted women since its beginning in 1833 and is an historical leader in the education of African Americans.
