||||||||||||
FEBRUARY 12, 2001--Elsa Barkley Brown, a distinguished scholar of African-American and women's history from the University of Maryland, will present a lecture titled "Considering the Social Identities of African American Men: The World of Edward McConnell Drummond" at 8:00 P.M. on Friday, February 16 in the Hallock Auditorium of the Adam Joseph Lewis Environmental Studies Center. The lecture will address how, immediately following the Civil War, African Americans founded and developed institutions and community resources to meet their new needs in urban areas. Brown will talk about how African-American men and women worked together to create forums and organizations for education, healthcare, economic development, religion, and other shared goals. The lecture is sponsored by the Women's Studies Program and the African-American Studies and History Departments. |
