OBERLIN COLLEGE HOSTS ANNUAL ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICAN CONFERENCE |

OCTOBER 3, 2001-- Oberlin College will host the annual National East of California Asian-American Conference on the weekend of October 12-14. This year's conference is entitled Locating East of California. The stated purpose of the conference is to "reconsider the contours and practices of Asian Pacific American communities and scholarship east of California " As part of the conference, Deeana Jang '79, will chair a panel discussion entitled The Fight for Asian-American Studies at Oberlin: Critical Reflections on the History of Asian American Activism. A panel of Oberlin alumni will discuss their personal experiences concerning the push for more Asian-American classes at institutions of higher learning and what is left for the current students to accomplish. Many members of the Oberlin faculty will participate in various panel discussions that examine issues regarding Asian-Americans.
East of California is an Asian-American studies network made up by sixty-four colleges and universities that are devoted to the promotion of Asian-American studies. East of California is dedicated to examining and institutionalizing Asian-American studies in the heartland of the United States. There is a twenty-five dollar registration fee for faculty, staff and community members. Registration is free for all students.
