BISHOP GEORGE DALLAS McKINNEY , Ph.D.,D.D TO SPEAK AT OCTOBER VESPER SERVICE

OCTOBER 8, 2001-- Bishop George McKinney, founder and pastor of St. Stephen's Church of God in Christ (COGIC), will speak on "Grace for Another Year " at Oberlin College's Vesper services October 14 at
4 P.M. in Fairchild Chapel. A reception in Wilder 112 will follow the service.

In addition to COGIC, McKinney and his wife, Jean, are founders of St. Stephen's Nursery School, the Southeast Counseling and Consulting Services, American Urban University and St. Stephens Retirement Center, all located in San Diego, California. McKinney also serves as the Jurisdictional Prelate of the Southern California Second Ecclesiastical Church of God in Christ.

The author of numerous books, McKinney's literary credits include senior editor for the African American Devotional Bible and the best-selling book, Cross the Line: Reclaiming the Inner City for God, which he co-authored with William Kritlow in 1998. He also serves as publisher for the San Diego Monitor and has recently added to his list of honors a Racial Reconciliation Man of the Year Award, which he received in March 2001 from the National Association of Evangelists (NAE) for his achievements in the area of racial unity.

A magna cum laude graduate of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, McKinney also holds a M.A. from the Oberlin College School of Theology in Ohio, a Ph.d. from the California Graduate School of Theology in Glendale, California, and an honorary D.D. from Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania.
