OBERLIN HOSTS CONFERENCE ON POST-SOVIET UNION RUSSIA ON NOVEMBER 9 AND 10 |

OCTOBER 23, 2001-- The Russian and East European Studies Curricular Committee at Oberlin College will host a conference titled "After the Fall: Reflections on Post-Soviet Russia Ten Years Out." Peter Reddaway, a professor of political science at George Washington University, will make the keynote address, "From Imploding Communism to Darwinian Capitalism: Russia's First Decade of Independence." on November 9 at 8 p.m. During this two-day conference scheduled on November 9-10, a distinguished group of Russian and American scholars will take stock of post-Soviet Russia's tumultuous and fascinating first decade, and will offer new perspectives on Russia's present condition as well as predictions about the country's future. The conference will include panel discussions on cultural development, politics and society in the new Russia. Several experts in the field will facilitate them, including Helena Goscilo, a professor of Slavic studies at the University of Pittsburgh; Boris Roginsky, an assistant lecturer of ethics and aesthetics at the Russian State Pedagogical Institute in St. Petersburg; Vadim Volkov, an associate professor of political science at the European University in St. Petersburg; Viktor Zaslavsky, a professor of political sociology at the Free International University for Social Sciences in Rome.
