THE OBERLIN REVIEW'S ONLINE VERSION NAMED PACEMAKER FINALIST

OCTOBER 16, 2001--Oberlin College's student newspaper The Oberlin Review has been selected from among 77 entries as one of 26 online Pacemaker finalists by the Associate Collegiate Press (ACP). Winners will be announced October 27, 2001 at the ACP awards ceremony.

The Review was founded in 1872 and is one of the oldest continuing student publications in the country. It has been available online since 1996.

Review webmasters Jon MacDonald, a junior visual arts major from Worthington, Ohio, and Benjamin Alschuler, a junior from Boston, Massachusetts, worked to redesign the paper's web site for the recent move to a .org, which made the Review accessible to even more readers.

Oberlin has long been at the forefront of wired campuses. "Yahoo! Internet Life recently rated the College as one of the top five most wired colleges in America, due, in part, to immense student Internet interest and use," said Ireta Kraal, long-term manager of the Review.

The Review also has broken barriers by being the first college paper to be downloadable to Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), earning the publication a mention in the Chronicle of Higher Education.
