NEW YORK CITY'S NUBIAN GENTS TO PERFORM IN LORAIN

AUGUST 12, 2002--The Nubian Gents, a Christian male step group, will give a free performance in Lorain, Ohio, Tuesday, August 20. Oberlin College graduate Lamont O'Neil '91, director of the Nubian Gents, brings the team to Lorain County as part of their Hope Tour USA 2002. The performance will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Faith Ministries Christian Center, 1306 Euclid Avenue.

Established in 1994 as an extracurricular program at Junior High School 231 in Queens, New York, the Nubian Gents is a ministry that combines step and dance with contemporary gospel. Mr. O'Neil organized the group as a tool to reach young men who might otherwise be drawn to crime or drugs and help them develop greater discipline, cooperation and goal-setting skills.

In 1998, the team became affiliated with New Life of New York City, Inc., a non-profit organization that uses the foundations of the Christian faith to help at-risk urban teens in Lower Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens.

Now in its fourth year with New Life, the team of 24 "Gents," who range in age from 9-17, have ministered in churches, youth camps, and fairs across the U.S. and in Europe. The mission of New Life of New York City is to communicate the Christian faith to at-risk urban teens who desperately need a stabilizing force in the their lives. New Life reaches teens by developing personal relationships and engaging them in a diverse number of programs including after-school recreation centers, computer learning centers, theater and dance, sports, and vocational mentoring.
