THE FLYING KARAMAZOV BROTHERS PLAY CATCH! AT OBERLIN COLLEGE |
||||||||||||
NOVEMBER 6, 2002--The Flying Karamazov Brothers--masters of juggling and cheap theatric--are proud to present their new show, Catch!, in Oberlin College's Finney Chapel (90 North Professor Street) Friday, November 15, at 8:00 p.m. The show is a celebration of their many happy and successful invasions of the Great White Way and nearby beach-heads, with a selection of old favorites and highlights from the performances that rocked Broadway and rolled down 42nd street. As hilarious and exciting as their previous outings, Catch! includes their traditional juggling of everyday items such as sickles, hatchets, meat cleavers, and torches. For fans of the bizarre and unexpected, there is that perennial favorite, The Gamble, where the audience brings whatever objects of whimsy, or of terror, that they think will prove unjugglable, betting a standing ovation against a pie in the face that it can't be done. The Karamazov audience often comes well prepared for this segment. At past performances, livers, computers, ice cream, Slinkys, even bread boxes have been contributed by the crowd. On one occasion a fish market owner brought a 9.5-pound (deceased) octopus. A final requirement, the Karamazovs note, is that "the Champ will not juggle any live animals or anything which might stop the Champ from being a live animal." When faced with the question of how to make a fair decision, they each try desperately to be the winner at a game of chance and skill called "musical clubs," their version of musical chairs. They pay tribute to taiko festival drumming with their version of the art form, performed on cardboard boxes of course. The Brothers search their vault of juggling patterns to find the "impossible trick," where they can only succeed by failing, all the while introducing, one-by-one, nine objects of danger which they will attempt to juggle as their finale. Also featured will be a new piece wherein the FKB teach the entire audience how to juggle. The audience can purchase balls at the event, or bring their own--or stubbornly refuse. So get in on the fun
with some guaranteed guffaw therapy while you join the Karamazovs as they
stroll through their Broadway memories. |
