||||||||||||
OCTOBER 28, 2002--Contemporary folk-pop artist Erin McKeown will perform at Oberlin College's Finney Chapel (90 North Professor Street) Saturday, November 9 at 8:00 p.m. Quickly making a name for herself as one of the hottest up-and-coming singer-songwriters, McKeown's music has been characterized as a hybrid of folk, blues, and jazz with a modern sound. Proficient on bass, piano, and guitar as well as banjo and mandolin, McKeown penned 10 of the 11 tracks on Distillation--her first full-length CD release. New Music Monthly describes the CD as a "beguiling mix of crisp vocals and colorful lyrics set in a bed of soft string instruments and folk-rock accompaniment." McKeown, 25, earned a degree in ethnomusicology from Brown University while pursuing her music career. She was named "Best Folk Artist" in the Providence Phoenix's 2000 best music poll and received a 2000 Boston Music Award nomination for "Outstanding New Singer-Songwriter. She has just completed work on a new album, which should be released early next year. For more information about McKeown, visit her web site. |
