NEW MEDIA DESIGNER CURTIS HILLMAN TO LECTURE AT OBERLIN COLLEGE APRIL 14

APRIL 10, 2003--Award-winning new media designer Hillman Curtis will lecture at Oberlin College Monday, April 14, at 4:30 p.m. The free, public lecture will take place in Classroom I of the Allen Art Building.

Curtis is the principal and chief creative officer of hillmancurtis, inc., an all-medium digital design firm in New York City. He is recognized as a preeminent figure of web-based flash design and has been hailed as an innovator for using digital video on the Internet through the mixture of video and Flash technologies. Curtis has appeared as the keynote and featured speaker at design conferences worldwide, and has had his work featured in a variety of major design publications.

His newest book, "MTIV: Process, Inspiration and Practice for the New Media Designer" is currently in its third pressing. Hillman's first book, "Flash Web Design" has sold over 100 thousand copies and has been translated into 12 languages.

During his lecture, Curtis will share some of the thoughts, inspirations, and influences that have brought him to his place as an award-winning designer, author, and businessman, including the firm belief that the web is an open medium--and one that no one can define.

In addition to his public lecture, Curtis will meet with students on an individual basis from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to review portfolios or answer questions about new media design. A signup sheet can be found on the Media Lab door, near the Art Department office in the new addition.

Curtis' lecture is being sponsored by the Ellen Johnson Memorial Fund.
