OBERLIN HOSTS ART WORKSHOP, STUDENT FILM SCREENING AT CLEVELAND GALLERY MARCH 8 | ||||||||||||
FEBRUARY 24, 2003--On Saturday, March 8th seniors in art at Oberlin College will host a Free For All Ages art workshop from 1 to 5 p.m. and a Student Film Night at 8 p.m. at the Colleges Gallery & Performance Space at Here Here, 1305 Euclid Avenue. The workshop and screening will conclude Convergence, a two-week collaborative exhibition curated by the Oberlin seniors showcasing work in media ranging from painting, prints and other two-dimensional work to sculpture, video, and performance. "Part of being an artist is about sharing our skills," says Andrea Fritsch04, Convergence co-curator and high school workshop coordinator. "And we hope people who might not be interested in art as well as art lovers will come to the gallery on March 8 and make art with us." Free art activities geared towards different ages will feature oil painting, stained glass, film, puppet and mobile making, mini-comics, cyanotype, and improv comedy. Various art demonstrations will also offer gallery visitors insights into their favorite mediums. "The films to be shown on Student Film Night are funny, serious, poignant, and experimental works on digital video and16- and 32-mm," says Convergence Co-curator Chloe Hawkins03. They include documentary, narrative, and experimental shorts in black and white and color by students from the Colleges new cinema studies major, the Film Co-op, the Experimental College, digital video courses, and the Oberlin semester at NYUs Tisch School of the Arts film program. Among those students whose works will be shown are Danya Abt 04, Matt Billings03, Stephan Grube04, Emilio Olivera04, Michael Sowiski03, and Ry Russo-Young03. |
