OBERLIN KOREAN STUDENT ASSOCIATION TO HOST CONFERENCE FEBRUARY 28-MARCH 2 |
||||||||||||
FEBRUARY 6, 2003--A Century of Struggle: Shaping Korean Identities is the title of the fourth biennial conference to be presented by the Oberlin Korean Students Association (OKSA) February 28 through March 2. The keynote speaker will be John Lie, the Korean Foundation Professor of Korean Studies and professor of sociology at the University of Michigan. "This year marks the 100th anniversary of the first Korean migrants to Hawaii," says conference co-chair Lida Kim. "Although Koreans/Korean Americans share this common history and heritage of immigration, it is imperative to recognize and critically examine the diversity present within the Korean diaspora. "This conference will address important issues that affect the Korean/Korean American community," Kim adds. "The goals are to both empower our community on campus and at large, and educate the larger public about Korean/Korean American issues." All events will be held in the Colleges Wilder Hall, 135 W. Lorain St. Registration package cost is $20 for students and $35 for others. To register or request more information, please visit the conference's web site, or contact lida kim. Conference
