Political Commentator and Author David Frum to Speak at Oberlin March 14

OBERLIN, OHIO — David Frum, political commentator, presidential speechwriter, and author of bestsellers focusing on the American conservatism movement, will give Oberlin College's fifth Convocation talk of the year at 8 p.m. Friday, March 14, in Oberlin's Finney Chapel, located on the corner of West Lorain and North Professor streets.

The free public series is presented under the auspices of the Finney Lecture Committee and the Office of the President.

Frum is a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research, and writes a daily column for National Review Online , as well as weekly columns for Canada's National Post and Italy's Il Foglio . He contributes frequently to the editorial pages of The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.

He appears frequently on CNN, Fox News, and the BBC. He is a member of the board of directors of the Republican Jewish Coalition and was a senior foreign policy adviser to the Rudy Giuliani presidential campaign.

In 2001-02, Frum served as a special assistant to President George W. Bush for economic speechwriting. In October 2005, he founded and served as chairman of Americans for Better Justice, the lobbying group that led the opposition to the nomination of Harriet Miers to the US Supreme Court.

He is the author of six books, including two New York Times bestsellers: The Right Man: The Surprise Presidency of George W. Bush (2003), and co-author with Richard Perle of An End to Evil: How To Win the War on Terror (2004). His latest book, Comeback: Conservatism That Can Win Again , was released Dec. 31, 2007.

Frum's first book, Dead Right (1994), was described by William F. Buckley as “the most refreshing ideological experience in a generation,” and by Frank Rich of the New York Times as “the smartest book written from the inside about the American conservative movement.” In 1996, The Wall Street Journal acclaimed him as “one of the leading political commentators of his generation.”

Frum earned simultaneous bachelor's and master's degrees in history from Yale in 1982. He was appointed a visiting lecturer in history at Yale in 1986, and in 1987, he graduated cum laude from the Harvard Law School, where he served as president of the Federalist Society. A native of Toronto, he lives in Washington, D.C.
