Sigrid Bauschinger to Deliver 24th Annual Max Kade Lecture Saturday

SEPTEMBER 22, 1999-- ”A Dead Certain Instinct for Quality: The Jewish Contribution to Modern Literature and Art in Berlin between 1900-1920” is the title of the 24th annual Max Kade Lecture to be delivered Saturday at 4 P.M. in the Max Kade German House Lounge.

Sigrid Bauschinger, a renowned specialist on German Expressionism and Exile literature, will present the talk. Bauschinger is professor of German studies and adjunct professor of Judaic studies at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

She is the author of many articles and books, including Else Lasker-Schuler: Her Work and Her Times (1980) and The Trumpet of Reform, German Literature in 19th-Century New England (1989--English translation 1998).

The annual event is presented by the Oberlin College Department of German and Russian and is made possible by grants to the department by the Max Kade Foundation of New York. Steven Huff, associate professor of German and chair of the department, has more information at 440-775-8658.
