OBERLIN, OHIO--Oberlin College has selected Jeff Ramsey as its new head football coach. "I am excited about the opportunity to coach football at such an outstanding academic institution as Oberlin College," said Ramsey.

"Jeff Ramsey is a quality individual with an extensive background in coaching and recruiting," said Michael Muska, director of athletics. "He has worked with superb football programs in the past and we look forward to having him join the Oberlin College community."

Ramsey's football background includes two years as an assistant coach at Sonoma State University, where he was the Cossacks' offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. His responsibilities also included serving as recruiting coordinator, strength and conditioning coordinator and academic and eligibility coordinator. Prior to his experience at Sonoma, Ramsey spent three years coaching the wide receivers and tight ends at the University of Nevada-Reno. In his first season at Nevada, the Wolfpack finished 16th in the NCAA Division IAA final season poll. The next year they finished 2nd in the nation followed by a #1 ranking the following season.

"Jeff has a very effective plan for both recruiting and coaching and we were also impressed with his ability to teach the game of football," said Muska. "The energy and professionalism that he conveys will revitalize the College's commitment to the football program."

Ramsey began his coaching career as an assistant coach at the University of California-Davis, where he coached the running backs, tight ends and offensive tackles. He was also the head coach and offensive coordinator of the freshman team while at UC-Davis. His football coaching background also includes two years as a graduate assistant at the University of Illinois, where he coached running backs and tight ends, and one season as the defensive backfield coach at Marietta College.

Ramsey received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of California-Davis in 1983 and a master of science degree from the University of Illinois in 1988.
