Photo and Video Opportunity at Finney Chapel OBERLIN, OHIO--Oberlin College is hosting an all-community discussion about the war in the Balkans Sunday, May 9. The teach-in--a series of panel discussions and information sessions held on several campus locations--will discuss the history and culture of the Balkans, the status of the conflict, and the effects of U.S. and NATO policy on the region. All events are free and open to the public. The All-Community Teach-In on the War in Yugoslavia will begin at noon with a session led by Oberlin College President Nancy Dye. The panelists will give an overview of the history of the Balkans and the current status of the conflict. Audience members will have time to pose questions to the panel. At 1:45 p.m. in the King Building, Oberlin College faculty will lead two smaller, in-depth discussions about the role of NATO and the United Nations and how students and community members can get involved. At the discussions, students from the Balkan region will express their views on the conflict. The event will culminate outdoors in Wilder Bowl at 4 p.m. Local and student organizations will staff information booths and discuss their initiatives on an open microphone on the Wilder Student Union's porch. All are welcome to share their thoughts on the conflict at the open mike. |
