Pianist Stephen Moore, associate professor of music at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, will perform a solo recital in Memorial Chapel at the University of Redlands, on Thursday, March 25, at 8 p.m. In honor of the sesquicentennial celebration of Frèdèric Chopin's death in 1849, Moore will perform the complete Etudes, Op 10 and 25.

Chopin's "Studies" have long been considered the quintessential examples of piano technique (Op. 10 was dedicated to Chopin's friend and virtuoso contemporary Franz Liszt). Moreover, many of the pieces are among his beloved works and were given descriptive names by the public: the "Revolutionary Etude," "The Harp Etude," and "The Winter Wind Etude," among others. Moore's concert will offer a rare opportunity to hear all the Etudes performed in one recital.

Prior to joining the faculty at Oberlin Conservatory, Moore was a faculty member at the University of Redlands (1993-1998) and he continues to perform with violinist Pavel Farkas, U of R Artist-in-Residence. They are working on a compact disc recording and will perform on the Oberlin Conservatory Guest Artist Series for 1999-2000.

Moore is president of the Dalcroze Society of America and is co-author of a book about Dalcroze Eurhythmics entitled, The Rhythm Inside, published by Sterling Press. He continues to teach at the University of Washington for the annual summer Dalcroze Training Institute.
