OBERLIN, OHIO--Sixty-three Ohio residents are among the 689 students to graduate from Oberlin College at its 166th commencement ceremonies, held today. John J. Sweeney, president of the AFL-CIO, delivered the commencement address. He was awarded the honorary Doctor of Laws degree. Other honorary degree recipients included co-developer of the heart-lung machine Dr. Frederick S. Cross, OC '42, who received an honorary Doctor of Science degree; and noted historian Robert McCune Kingdon, OC '49, considered one of the most eminent of scholarly experts on the European Reformation, who received an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree. Marian Baum received the college's annual award for distinguished service to the community. She was recognized for her work as a community mental health activist and children's health and education advocate. Elaine Amacker Bridges, OC '59, received the Oberlin College Alumni Medal. |
