A lecture and educational powwow will bring American Indian life to Oberlin's campus February 19 and 20. Bob Roche, director of the American Indian Education Center in Cleveland, will deliver a lecture entitled "American Indians in Cleveland: 50 Years of Urban Racism" February 19 at noon. Roche has lectured throughout the country and in Ireland about the history and politics of the American Indian community. On February 20, Oberlin's Carnegie Building will host a powwow that will feature traditional dancers, drum demonstrations, arts, crafts, and food. Demonstrations include a flute performance by Kay Edwards, visiting assistant professor of music education at the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, and a lecture by Faye Lone, Seneca head dancer. Dancers and drummers will teach their techniques. Traditional food offerings include Navajo tacos, Native American fry bread, buffalo chili, and sassparilla tea. The American Indian Education Center and Oberlin College, sponsor the events with support from the American Association of Colleges and Universities.
