The observance of a calendar of sacred seasons and holidays is an important aspect of most religious traditions. For a current calendar of most major religious holidays taking place during this year and beyond, please visit www.interfaithcalendar.org.
College Religious Holiday Observance Policy:
Since 1983 it has been the policy of Oberlin College to excuse students from classes for observances of major holidays of their faith, and to allow students to make up missed assignments or other work due to such absence, provided arrangements are made in advance. It was the sense of a meeting of the General Faculty (Spring 1986) that the same understanding should apply to classes missed due to travel to or from Oberlin on a major religious holiday. The student should be excused from class and allowed to make up the work, provided arrangements are made in advance. In 1989, the Faculty adopted legislation making Yom Kippur a free day. No classes are to be held. Students who need support with these arrangements are encouraged to contact ORSL.
