DESCRIPTION
Remove the preheated potatoes from the hot water bath with tongs.  Place them on the tupperware lid in view of the infrared camera and allow them to cool.  The smaller potatoes can be seen to cool faster than the larger ones.  This is intended to illustrate that smaller planets cool faster than larger planets.

Set the camera's temperature range manually to span the expected temperature range of the potatoes so that the differences are evident.

Be careful to keep stray reflections out of the image.

NOTES

Use an assortment of potato sizes from large to small.  Use the deep fryer to heat the potatoes in water just below boiling.  Set this up beforehand with the temperature slider on the high side of "low".  Start the fryer 30 min before class starts so that they are uniformly heated by that time.  Be mindful of the temperature scaling, otherwise the effect won’t be noticeable.

To use the camera:  Navigate the menu system using the touch screen or the navigation button.  Focus with the focusing ring.

Use the aspect/5 button on the projector remote control to change the aspect ratio to 4:3.
