TRANSIENT LRC OSCILLATIONS WITH DIGITAL STORAGE SCOPE

APPARATUS
60 mH inductor 214-01-D
0.5 uF capacitor
101-09-G4
decade resistance box 214-01-A
10 ohm resistor
107-cabinet
dpdt switch
214-01-D
DC power supply 202-08-D
digital storage scope 202-08-B
camera 202-09-D

DESCRIPTION
Set the switch to charge the capacitor.  Arm the scope (single sequence button).  Flip the switch to discharge the capacitor through the LRC series circuit.  The oscilloscope is set to display VR and VC.

This demo is identical to the analog scope version except that the circuit uses different components, in particular a larger capacitor value so the capacitor doesn't discharge through the smaller input impedance of the DSO before the switch is thrown.  To vary the capacitance, connect a second 0.5 uF capacitor in parallel with the first.

Vc on CH1 is in yellow and VR on CH2 is in blue.

NOTES

Make sure the switch contacts are clean.

The key switches have more contact bounce, so the traces are cleaner when using the dpdt switches.

To clear the display, select "single sequence" then "force trigger".

Adjust the camera aperture so the colors of the traces are apparent on the projected image.
