BICYCLE GENERATOR

APPARATUS
modified stationary bicycle with mounted generator
002
bank of lights and switch panel
002

DESCRIPTION
Pedaling the bicycle turns the generator and powers up to six 12 V, 50 W lamps.  In manual mode, the user can switch the lamps into the circuit one at a time to increase the load.  In automatic mode, the lamps turn on automatically as the generated power increases.  The panel meters monitor the current, voltage, and power. The demonstration is intended to allow the user to feel what it means to generate up to 300 W of power.

NOTES
Read the user manual.

The meters can be powered by the generator (set power switch to "self-powered"), or with an external source (set power switch to "external" and plug in adapter).

The generator must be connected with the correct polarity.

Do not operate the generator without first connecting the display panel; dangerous voltage will be produced from the unloaded generator.

Do not pedal the bike backwards.  Doing so will damage the MOSFET lamp drivers.  You may rotate the crank as needed to engage toe-clips over shoes.

When operating in manual mode, be sure all switches are in the off position as you begin pedaling.

Exercise caution around moving parts.  Tie back loose clothing at ankles and legs.
