DIAMAGNETIC LEVITATION OF GRAPHITE

APPARATUS
thin piece of pyrolytic graphite
202-20-B
nine neodymium cube magnets on steel base
202-20-B
video camera
202-09-D

DESCRIPTION
The magnets are arranged in a square with poles vertical, alternating poles so the magnet array stays together.  Pyrolytic graphite is strongly diamagnetic and has a small enough density that it can be levitated by the magnets.

NOTES

Use caution around the strong magnets.
