Half fill the two containers with
styrofoam pieces. Place one then the other on the van de Graaff
and turn it
on. The styrofoam pieces in the plastic container become charged,
repel,
and disperse. The pieces in the metal can remain in place,
showing
that the charge remains on the outside of the can.
