SUSPENDED BLOCK

block on an inclined plane

APPARATUS
hinged board 202-15-D
wooden block 202-15-D6
strip of 3/8" plywood 202-15-D6
pulley clamp 202-15-D6
pulley on rod 202-15-D6
C clamp 202-01-D5
string 202-02-C3
2 weight hangers 101-05-D1
set of weights 101-05-C
protractor 101-05-E2
ringstands, rods, right angle clamps  202

DESCRIPTION
The block rests on an inclined board.  Measure the angle and calculate the normal and frictional forces provided by board.  Use pulleys and hanging weights to replace the normal and frictional forces.  Remove the board to show that the block remains in place.

NOTES

Clamp the board to the cart by the hinged piece of metal with strip of plywood under it.  Support the board with a horizontal rod under the lip.  Use a tall ringstand so that the weights that replace normal force clear the block.

Mass of block is 2.74 kg.
