DESCRIPTION

Weigh one of the masses on the scale.  Predict the new scale reading if the (massless) pulley is supported by the scale, and the mass hangs from a string which passes over the pulley and is tied to the rod below.  The second mass can be used to show that the rod exerts a force equal to the weight of the mass.
