PARTICLE IN A BOX

APPARATUS
set of quantum dot solutions
202-13-A2
400 nm LED or UV lamp
202-13-A2

DESCRIPTION
The vials contain semiconductor (indium phosphide) nanocrystals in solution, 2-3 nm in radius, with the particle size being different for each vial.  The solutions fluoresce under violet light.  The electron-hole pair created by the incident photon is confined within the dot and can be modeled as a particle in a spherical box. The smaller the box, the higher the energy levels and the shorter the peak wavelength of the emitted light.

NOTES
The vials are sealed and not meant to be opened.  The rack should be kept upright.
