DESCRIPTION
A pair of microscope slides have
been
taped together, trapping a thin film of air between them.
View
reflection
of white or sodium light in the slides against a dark
background.
The
light
reflecting off the two inner air-glass interfaces produces an
interference
pattern. Flex or squeeze the slides to change the
thickness of
the air
film and move the pattern.
These can be viewed on the document camera or passed around the
class.
NOTES
There are seven pairs of slides to
pass
around to students.
To make more slide pairs, use new
microscope slides. For a more uniform air wedge,
place
a piece of paper between the slides on one end.
