APPARATUS

Light the dry fuel tablets and slide the tray under the boiler.  Once the water in the tank boils, close the whistle valve and open the throttle then rotate the flywheel to get it started (counter-clockwise as viewed in the photo above).  Steam will drive the piston and turn the flywheel until the fuel is gone - about five minutes.

Use caution around the hot boiler.

 

NOTES

To prepare the steam engine for use, remove the pressure relief valve and fill the boiler with distilled water until half full. Replace the pressure relief valve.  Place two fuel tablets in the tray.  Start with the whistle open (valve handle parallel to pipe) and the throttle closed.

Oil the moving parts as needed.

The rectangular metal piece is a spanner wrench of sorts for the retaining ring on the water level gauge.
