Workshop Descriptions

Empowerment Contra

Dela Murphy

What's the #1 best way to improve your dancing? Consent! It's a communication toolkit dancers of any role can use to have a better time, more often. "Empowerment Contra" is a playful session designed to explore these new dance skills. Come for the fun, and leave a more generous and popular dance partner!

Ambidancetrous Contra

Alexandra Deis-Lauby

The ambidancetrous dancer dances both roles gracefully. Hone and stretch your skill through dancing choreography designed to invite swapping, flexible lead/follow relationships, and creativity.

Uncommon Dances & Formations

Dela Murphy

Enjoy dances and formations that aren’t typically called during a modern contra dance! What’s a tempest or a nine pin? What’s so special about Money Musk or Levi Jackson Rag? Come find out and play!

Caller Workshop

Alexandra Deis-Lauby

Walkthroughs, Walkthroughs, Walkthroughs! What makes some callers clear, concise and accurate? Practicing and honing the walkthroughs! In this workshop we will drill teaching language. Join if you've been calling a while or if you're new to the game!

Advanced Contras

Alexandra Deis-Lauby

Celtic heys, ocean waves, funky box circulates! If you know your basics cold and are ready for a challenge, this is the session for you!

Borrowed Figures

Alexandra Deis-Lauby

Grand Chains, Poussettes, Mad Robins, Square Throughs and lots more of our favorite figures all came from other dance forms!

Waltz Workshop

Alexandra Deis-Lauby

Intermediate waltz. You might learn to zig and zag across the floor, or a variety of things to do in cuddle, or cape! Come learn some moves and then learn how to play with them to discover more on your own!
